Irizar awarded the two largest zero-emission electric bus contracts in Spain
Aduna, 14 June, 2019
The Irizar Group continues to achieve success in European markets. The implementation of the ambitious project in the city of Amiens, and the signing of recent contracts in the Northern European cities of Düsseldorf in Germany and Schaffhausen in Switzerland are followed by the agreements that it has just signed in Madrid and Vitoria-Gasteiz.
These are currently the largest of zero-emission electric bus projects in Spain.
EMT Madrid once again relies on Irizar e-mobility and, after the addition of 15 buses to its fleet last year, signs an agreement for another 20 electric buses.
In the case of Vitoria-Gasteiz, the agreement includes the provision of 13 zero-emission buses, corresponding electric charging systems, and maintenance. within the city's Smart Electric Bus (BEI) project.
On this occasion, EMT Madrid will acquire the second generation of the 12-meter bus model, the Irizar ie bus, which incorporates the latest technological and design innovations, including: a 10% weight reduction, improvement of passenger capacity in accordance with the regulations of several countries, etc., and a new generation of more efficient batteries with faster charges, all developed and manufactured by Irizar. The vehicles will be delivered this year 2019.
In the case of Vitoria-Gasteiz, the project includes the implementation of the first 100% zero-emission electric line in the city for which Irizar is collaborating with the construction company Yarritu and LKS, which will carry out the engineering, civil works, signage, communications, etc.
Irizar will supply 13 zero-emission buses with completely interoperable fast charging and in depot charging systems and maintenance. Seven are 18-metre articulated buses while the remaining six vehicles are 12-metre, both Irizar ie tram models.
The contract also includes the installation of interoperable pantograph opportunity charging stations at two stops along the route, which will allow buses to be charged in 4 minutes during their journey. Additionally, completely interoperable in depot smart charging systems, developed and supplied by Irizar, will be installed. The first vehicles will be delivered by middle of 2020.
With the implementation of this Smart Electric Bus (BEI) project, Vitoria-Gasteiz takes a firm step in its commitment to sustainable mobility.
Europe's largest interoperable ultra-fast charging electric BRT fleet (43 zero-emission buses) is already in operation
The ambitious project of the new Ametis BRT service lines is already underway in the city of Amiens, where 43 Irizar ie tram model zero-emission electric buses and charging infrastructures, developed and supplied by the Irizar Group, have been put into operation.
The electric buses operate on three of the four new Nemo lines. These BRT lines (Bus Rapid Transit) ensure service from four in the morning until midnight, with a frequency of 8-10 minutes and are charged in route in 4 minutes via six ultra-fast charging pantograph infrastructures installed at different points of the city.
For over-night charging, an additional 43 smart chargers have been installed in the new Rivery depots. The entire charging infrastructure has also been developed and supplied by the Irizar Group.
Hector Olabegogeaskoetxea, Managing Director of Irizar e-mobility points out that |this is a very important project for the Irizar Group. A turnkey project, with a ultra-fast charging infrastructure, the largest in Europe. Amiens is our first network of this scale for design, manufacturing, and charging systems, which will undoubtedly serve as a showcase for future projects|
The Irizar Group is also supplying 16 units of the Irizar 12-meter ie tram for the city of Aix en Provence and 10 units of the Irizar ie tram 18-meter for Bayonne, which will be launched in September.
