The Irizar ie truck leading the European Business Awards for the Environment

The 100% electric Irizar ie urban truck, developed jointly with FCC Medio Ambiente, has won the award at the 2019-2020 European Business Awards for the Environment (EBAE Award) in the Product and / or Service category for the project |Development of High Efficiency, Modular and Self-supporting Electric Traction Vehicular Platforms for Urban Services|.
The Irizar ie urban truck is a 100% electric truck that responds to different market needs and can move around cities and urban environments without atmospheric or acoustic pollution. This first truck, equipped with a side-loading body for waste collection, is the result of a joint R&D project of the Irizar Group and FCC Medio Ambiente.
The award ceremony that took place last Wednesday at the |Espacio Rastro Madrid|, was chaired by His Majesty King Felipe VI, who highlighted that this award shows the commitment of Spanish companies, a fundamental factor in development and innovation, to taking up the challenge of the ecological transition; as well as the importance of companies meeting the needs of current generations without compromising the lives of future generations. Mrs Teresa Ribera, Deputy Prime Minister of Spain and Minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, delivered the opening speech and welcomed those attending. Mrs Ribera highlighted the fundamental fact that there are socially aware companies that know how to combine their productive activity with respect for the environment.
The European Commission has held the EBAE awards since 1987 to recognize companies that successfully combine the economic viability of their businesses with protection of the environment. Since 2013, the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge has coordinated these European Community awards in Spain.
The Irizar ie urban truck, the 100% electric truck developed jointly by the Irizar Group and FCC Medio Ambiente, was also the winner of the World Smart City Awards in the Innovative Idea category, which was part of the Smart City Expo World Congress 2019, the global benchmark event for smart cities.
Serial industrial production of vehicles such as the ie urban collector truck on this Zero Emission (ZEV) chassis, with a drastic reduction in noise, pollutant and CO2 emissions and 50% less energy consumption than a conventional vehicle, represents the definitive push towards the deployment of affordable e-mobility in urban service vehicles in metropolitan areas, with a huge positive environmental impact in terms of polluting emissions and noise, reduction of carbon footprint and energy efficiency.
