Irizar e-mobility and Go-Ahead London awarded by The Worshipful Company of Carmen

Irizar e-mobility and Go-Ahead London had being awarded the prestigious Sir Henry Royce Memorial Foundation Award for the first electrified route in London to use ultra-fast opportunity charging buses.

The project is consisting of an initial fleet of twenty Irizar ie tram buses which are running on Route 358 in London with depot and route chargers. The buses are 12 metres long and are 100% electric. 

The buses are powered by Irizar Group’s latest-generation batteries, they are charged using two ultra-fast pantograph chargers with an inverted system that allows the buses to be charged in less than six minutes, providing the required services effortlessly. At the end of the route, the buses get a brief charge using the in-depot chargers.

The Irizar ie tram bus ensures zero emissions, low noise and vibration levels, enhanced safety, high capacity and easy access, together with five-minute charging.

The Worshipful Company of Carmen is one of the 112 livery companies in the City of London, and it dates back to 1517. Today it is one of the largest with over 600 members, who are committed to charitable generosity. The Carmen represent a wide range of aspects within the transport and logistics sector and continue to promote fellowship among those engaged in the industry and to those from a wider range of disciplines and professions.

The twenty Irizar ie trams started operating in November of last year on route 358 which is one of the longest bus routes in London, operating between Crystal Palace and Orpington. 

Its aesthetic attributes are reminiscent of a tram, like the hubcaps, and the rearview mirrors that have been replaced by cameras, projecting images onto two screens inside the vehicles on both sides of the driver, and the chromed perimeter ring that wraps around the body of the vehicle. The perimeter ring frames the large glass surface of the sides.
