The Irizar ie bus Efficient wins the 2026 Bus of the Year award

The Irizar ie bus Efficient has received the 2026 Bus of the Year award in Spain, a prize awarded by the jury of the National Transport Awards.
The awards ceremony took place yesterday at the Novotel Madrid Center hotel. Iñigo Azcona, Commercial Director for Spain and Portugal at Irizar e-mobility, collected the award on behalf of the company. Irizar e-mobility wanted to thank both the members of the jury and the organisation for this recognition.
The new fully electric vehicle features major improvements in efficiency, capacity, accessibility, comfort, safety, and sustainability, drawing on over 15 years of Irizar e-mobility’s experience in the electric urban bus sector. The new Irizar ie bus Efficient, is the result of the great work done by everyone in the company, to whom this award is dedicated.
This is the fourth time that the jury of the National Transport Awards has awarded this prize to Irizar e-mobility buses. In 2015, the then-called i2e received this award, and three years later, in 2018, the Irizar ie tram earned the distinction, also being recognised as the Eco-Friendly Industrial Vehicle of the Year. And in 2021, the new generation Irizar ie bus won the award again.
The National Transport Awards recognise the best industrial vehicles of the year in Spain. The jury is made up of a broad cross-section of industry professionals and operators from leading transport companies.
The new Irizar ie bus Efficient
In October 2025, Irizar e-mobility presented the new Irizar ie bus efficient, a completely new generation available in 10-, 12- and 18-metre versions. With this new platform, the company takes a qualitative and quantitative leap, positioning itself at the technological forefront in electromobility.
More space. More comfort. More efficiency.
One of the main improvements of this new platform is a weight reduction of nearly 1,000 kg, achieved through a new structural concept, which has made it possible to increase passenger capacity.
The new bus also achieves a reduction in energy consumption of up to 10% compared to the previous generation, thanks to the introduction of a more compact engine and a new generation of more efficient batteries.
With regard to accessibility, the new model has wider doors and aisles, in addition to optimised passenger flows, ensuring easier, more comfortable, and more inclusive access for everybody.
The vehicle is designed so that everyone can enjoy the ride. To this end, the independent climate control of the driving area has been improved, and the vehicle’s height and weight have been reduced, enhancing driver comfort. In addition, greater interior space and improved natural light have been achieved, creating a more comfortable and pleasant environment for passengers.
Design with its own identity
The exterior design of the new Irizar ie bus stands out because of its strong personality, which is inspired by the rest of the brand’s models. Its strong lines, alongside a well-defined frontal aesthetic, reinforce its distinctive character. The side elements are visually integrated using a design that connects the windows, panels, and doors into a single harmonious whole.
Commitment to sustainability
Significant progress in the use of recycled materials - twice as much as the previous platform - has been made on this new platform. This milestone reflects Irizar e-mobility's commitment to sustainability and the future of transport.
