Gijón Chooses Irizar e-mobility for the New Purchase of Electric Buses

Aduna, 15 April 2025

Irizar e-mobility has recently signed a supply contract for electric buses with the Empresa Municipal de Transportes Urbanos de Gijón (EMTUSA, municipal transport company). The contract is to supply four 100% electric 12-metre-long urban buses. The model chosen by the operator was the Irizar ie bus.

Delivery of the units is expected in 11 months, and they will provide service on line 10 (Pumarin - Hospital de Cabueñes). The line crosses the city of Gijón from west to east, and transports more than 2,827,137 passengers a year.

The ie bus model buses have a charging power up to 150 KW, and they will be charged using an inverted pantograph or Combo 2 outlet in the garage.

In terms of safety and security, they incorporate the GSR2 ADAS standard that, additionally, includes cybersecurity measures to ensure the protection of the vehicle.

The vehicles are completely accessible. They have a double ramp, two spaces reserved for wheelchairs or prams, and preferential seats for people with reduced mobility.

This order is part of an ambitious plan to renew the 24-27 fleet run by EMTUSA.

Irizar e-mobility has consolidated itself as a leader in the Spanish market for more than two consecutive years. Their electromobility solutions are present in more than 26 Spanish cities. This year, the company has surpassed 1,200 electric buses produced, which is a significant landmark considering it was founded barely nine years ago.
