Irizar e-mobility is at European Mobility Expo 2024 in Strasbourg
Irizar e-mobility will be at the European Mobility Expo 2024 fair, which will be held from 1 to 3 October in the French city of Strasbourg. A 12-metre long Irizar ie tram, the company’s flagship vehicle, will be exhibited at their stand.
The European Mobility Expo is a biennial event focused on public transport where the main companies and bodies in the sustainable mobility industry meet together.
Irizar e-mobility invites attendees to the fair to their stand - no. 14 located in Hall 1 - where they can see the 12-metre long Irizar ie tram model electric bus. That bus, specifically, is owned by Orleans Métropole, and it belongs to the last batch of orders.
Last year, Orleans Métropole chose the Irizar e-mobility ie trams once again. After 29 ie trams were put into operation in 2021, Orleans Métropole once again decided on Irizar e-mobility electric bus and they made another order, this time for seven units more of the same length and model.
This year the Communauté d'agglomération du Pays Basque has once again chosen the electric ie trams from Irizar e-mobility. Seven units will be 18-metres long and four will be 12-metres long. These new vehicles are added to the eighteen ie trams that have been on the road in this French region since 2019.
Both cities have once again decided to rely on Irizar e-mobility electromobility solutions, while in Paris the RATP has put its first 12-metre ie buses on the road this year (there will be 60 buses in total).
The innovative and modern design of the ie tram has captivated numerous cities around the world, and it can be seen on the streets of Madrid and Barcelona (Spain), London (England), Geneva (Switzerland), Merida (Mexico), Bayonne (France) and Schaffhausen (Switzerland), among others.
Irizar e-mobility also has the ie bus model available in 10, 12 and 18 metre versions in its product line. It’s a vehicle whose design is close to the aesthetic features of Irizar coaches. When it comes to the interior design, although the standard version has a more conventional specification, some of the Irizar ie tram options may be incorporated, including large windows, side lighting or screens above the windows, among others.
Since the beginning of this year, the company has been delivering their new generation of electric buses to their clients. The new generation has improvements in safety and security and follows the new GSR2 ADAS regulations that also include vehicle cybersecurity. It also has a renewed generation of batteries with lower consumption and a longer range that improves the energy available at BOL and EOL by 30%. The new drive system, with a lighter and more compact design, reduces weight up to 26% and also includes a new digital HMI that allows maximum personalisation.
New Electric Buses from Irizar e-mobility for the Bibus network in Brest Métropole, Brittany
Irizar e-mobility has won another contract for electric buses in a new French métropole. RATP Dev, the operator of the Bibus network for Brest Métropole, will start operating ten new Irizar electric buses in mid-July 2025.
The operator has chosen the 12-metre long Irizar ie bus model. The bus is characterised by its effectiveness, silence, and accessibility. It will be equipped with the latest generation of 470 kWh Irizar batteries. The bus has three doors, an electric ramp, 24 seats and two spaces for wheelchairs.
"After the recent order from the Communauté d'agglomération du Pays Basque, we’re delighted to announce this new contract with RATP Dev for Brest Métropole. France is an important country for us. More than 200 Irizar electric buses are on the road in several French cities. At Irizar e-mobility we’re committed to giving our full support to Brest Métropole. We’re looking forward to being by their side during their transformation to greener zero-emissions cities”, noted Iñigo Etxeberria, General Director of Irizar e-mobility.
Irizar e-mobility Delivers Its 1000th Electric Bus
Irizar e-mobility will soon deliver its 1000th bus. It’s a significant number, taking into account that the Basque company was created barely eight years ago. “The 1000th vehicle is more than a number for us. It signifies effort, teamwork, and commitment by all the people who are part of this great company. We’re a medium-sized company with local production that competes in an international market with major brands. Innovation and technology are key to keeping up in this highly demanding market. We keep working on new generations of vehicles and batteries in order to adapt to the needs of operators and the market”, noted Iñigo Etxeberria, Managing Director of Irizar e-mobility, a few weeks ago.
Irizar ie buses have been on the road in Strasbourg since 2020
Lastly, it should be mentioned that 49 Irizar e-mobility electric buses have been on streets of the host city of this year’s 2024 EuMo fair since late 2020. The Strasbourg Eurometropole is relying on Irizar e-mobility electric buses to implement completely sustainable transport in their city. The model chosen was the 12-metre long Irizar ie bus.
Irizar e-mobility continues their international expansion Cities of the calibre of London, Paris, Barcelona or Madrid have transformed their bus fleets by including electric vehicles by Irizar e-mobility. Those electric vehicles have also crossed the pond to Mexico, where 33 Irizar ie trams have been operating on the streets of Merida in the state of Yucatan since June of this year.
