Tuvisa has once again chosen Irizar e-mobility and is strengthening its electric fleet with five new ie trams

Aduna, 20 October 2026

Tuvisa has once again put their trust in Irizar e-mobility's electromobility solutions, and they're adding five new 100% electric buses to their fleet. They've chosen the Irizar ie tram, the company's flagship model, again. The new addition strengthens a collaboration that started in 2019, and it's the fourth time the operator in Vitoria has chosen Irizar e-mobility technology.

“For us, it's deeply satisfying that Tuvisa and the City of Vitoria-Gasteiz has chosen one of our solutions again. This new addition is the fourth time they've put their trust in Irizar e-mobility, which shows the soundness of a collaboration that started in 2019. Moreover, it's especially gratifying to see our ie trams on the road so close to our Aduna plant, where they're designed and manufactured. Vitoria-Gasteiz is a European leader in sustainable mobility, and we are extremely proud to be going hand-in-hand with the city in their transition to cleaner and more efficient mobility. We hope to keep moving in the same direction together, and to keep contributing to the development of more sustainable cities for many years to come.”, said Iñigo Azcona, commercial director of Irizar e-mobility for Spain and Portugal.

Of the five new units, three will be 18 metres and the rest will be 12 metres. The vehicles will keep contributing to reducing greenhouse gasses in Vitoria-Gasteiz by providing an efficient alternative to make progress towards healthier urban environments.

The collaboration between Irizar e-mobility and Tuvisa started in 2019 with the purchase of thirteen 12 and 18 metre ie trams, which were delivered in 2020 to get the EIB (Electric Intelligent Bus) system under way. Four years later Tuvisa incorporated another ten ie trams into their fleet, and in 2025 five additional units were added. Now, they've once again chosen the same model with the acquisition of five new vehicles.

The new buses have latest-generation technology, and they meet the highest European standards for safety, efficiency and sustainability. Likewise, they've been designed to provide an accessible travel experience for everybody, with reserved spaces for wheelchairs and prams, access ramps, Braille systems and areas adapted for people with reduced mobility.

The vehicles are designed and manufactured at the Irizar e-mobility plant in Aduna, Gipuzkoa just a few kilometres from Vitoria-Gasteiz, which means production is 100% local. It's a plant committed to development and talent that employs around 400 people and is firmly committed to employment and the technological development of the area.

Insofar as the exterior design, the Irizar ie tram is still the company's flagship model. Its design, inspired by the aesthetics of a tram, still causes a “wow” effect wherever it goes. It's a vehicle that has won many awards and it stands out for its versatility, efficiency and for transforming the perception of a traditional city bus by providing a modern, attractive and different image to public transport.

With the new buses, Vitoria-Gasteiz continues advancing in its commitment to more sustainable and efficient mobility, consolidating itself as one of the leading cities in electrifying public transport.
